Excuse me while I weep in the corner. Post your favorite shots of your own car to cheer me (and my wallet) up.

Glad you mentioned favorite shots! I forgot to post the ones I took the other day of my abarth. You’ve also brought up a good question I never asked about having my top replaced (under warranty). I have no idea how much that cost...had to be god awful.
Just curious, is it not something you can do yourself?

Here’s my 2015 Passat.
Am I doing this right?

oof. I have the inverse of this - Black w/ red accents (mirrors, side stripe, etc). Love the red, especially in the sun!

I can... But it’s apparently a pretty intense job, for someone who’s done tons of them it’s 3-4 hours all in. Triple that for a noob, plus however long it takes to adjust, readjust, etc. After 1.5 years of leak-patch-fix-leak-repeat I just want it done right haha

Judging from the other passat owners I know... Probably

Looks like it! That is gorgeous though... Mmm tan. As long as they don’t screw anything up I certainly won’t complain.

Ze 95 Miata. I know it’s cheap compared to a lot of other top installs but so far I haven’t had any maintenance related costs above $100. Discounting mods of course

I feel your pain, I bought a top online for my NA and never worked up the courage to install it, ended up sending it along to the new owner still in the box.

totally honest, it is FULL of micro scratches. Whoever owned it before me did not treat her well. I really need to color sand the whole car!
My dream abarth is white w/ white wheels and red accents

gotcha!!!! That same statement for when I replaced the top on the audi I had. I did enough research to feel I could attempt it at probably triple or more the expected hours to replace it. At least it will be done right!

What’s a hard top cost? Might be the push you need to go that route.

It’s a DIY project if you can stand a little frustration.

This is what happens when you get to ballsy with good snow tires. You get stuck.

They, along with Miatas in general, have been climbing in value. Generally speaking 1000-1200. Some rare colors going (and selling!) for up to 1700 on forums. Really, really beat up, wrecked paint, unlaminated window ones, maybe getting down to 800
I want one, but around here I love being able to go top down while knowing I’m prepped for rain at a moments notice haha

Are you telling me if I get snow tires on my Miata I won’t be able to drift circles around stuck jeeps...? That’s not what I want to hear

I love that Pontiac. The second car... Is that a 944? Don’t recognize the taillights

Only if you get a suspension lift and have an LSD maybe sweet drifts are possible. I think the Mazda 3 has more clearence than the MX-5 and I can’t do much more than 6" of snow before the car starts to loose contact with the ground.

Have a naked picture of my old miata during the top replacement, and a shot of the finished result.
FWIW, you should write that check for $550 with a smile on your face. Installing a convertible top is something that I will never do again. What you read about the job is correct: you can DIY and there is no special magic involved. However, it is a long, long and tedious job. No part of that job is enjoyable, and I say that from the perspective of someone who has turned wrenches for a living in my past. I will write a check with a simile on my face to any person who replaces a top on any future convertible that I might have.
